JULY 6th, 2008 - TRACK DAY - MOSPORT RDT

Woman's only trackday sponsored by Motoress.
I was hired to run tech inspection. Easy enough. But I did get a few laps in at the end of the day on Dave Hughe's RS125.
Wahoo!

JULY 15th, 2008 - UPDATE

Almost a major revision of the website. Some the pages are the same but alot of the links and indexes have been changed to text instead of tiny hard to read pictures. The TZ250 and TZR250 sections have been expanded and are hopefully a bit easier to navigate. There are a number of blank pages and missing text but I'll fill them all in as soon as I get a bit more time.

MAY 3rd, 2008 - UPDATE

I've updated the TZR250 page, in both the 2008 and the mods section. Seems I'm no longer waiting for parts, just waiting to find time to put the parts on.

APRIL 27th, 2008 - UPDATE

I've added, by request, the Yamaha tuning specs for the RZ500 on the articles page. I've been busy getting organized for the upcoming season but haven't had anything to report on.
I'm getting tired of winter and all the snow though.

APRIL 5th and 6th, 2008 - SPRING MOTORCYCLE SHOW

The VRRA executive have decided in their wisdom not to be in this show, would you believe? However, together with Denis Curtis and Dave Hughes, the three of us will be there as the unofficial VRRA display. Geez, last show before racing and no VRRA booth? What were they thinking?

FEBRUARY 20th, 2008 - UPDATE

I've decided to purchase a solo starter from DocZ. Guess I'm getting a bit tired of push starting my bikes, since not a single one of them is electric start. A most welcome addition to the race gear, especially on those hot humid race days.

FEBRUARY 8th, 2007 - UPDATE

Loads of updates this week and more coming. I've added two more pages and made the SRX600 page a full-on menu link. My TZR250 section has expanded to six pages complete with pics of the winter upgrades and lots of carb info. The TZR250 modifications page covers all my changes, even stuff not included in the F3 kit manual, with text and close up pictures of the mods to explain everything.

JANUARY 20th, 2007 - UPDATE

Not much getting done right now. My web stats show that most of my visitors are looking at my TZR250 page. So I've updated the specs page with some informative stuff and a few pics.

JANUARY 4th, 5th and 6th, 2008 - INTERNATIONAL SUPER SHOW

Yes, another show. This time its the International Super Show at the Toronto International Center out by the airport. For a change, I'm going to have my TZR250 displayed there, but without the new 34mm carb set up.

DECEMBER 14th, 2007 - UPDATE

I've just spent three days at the CNC machine shop making a few trick parts for my racebikes for the 2008 season. The neatest of them all is the new intake manifolds for my TZR250. These billet aluminum pieces replace the stock rubber manifolds and allow me to use almost any carb I want. I have a set of 34mmm Mukuni flatslides on order, and I'll post some pictures on the TZR250 page.

DECEMBER 7th, 8th and 9th, 2007 - MOTORCYCLE SHOW - MMIC

I'm going to have my TZ250 displayed here in the 'rider nation' section with a number of other VRRA racebikes.

NOVEMBER 12th, 2007 - UPDATE

The VRRA has announced dates for the 2008 racing season.

Quebec GP - July 12th and 13th, 2008
Mosport - August 15th, 16th and 17th, 2008
North Bay - September 6th and 7th, 2008

OCTOBER 8th, 2007 - TRACK DAY - CAYUGA TMP

This was the first time in a long time since I was at Cayuga. Despite the fact that the track was just a mere hour away, its erratic schedule for trackdays made it difficult to fit into my summer plan. Weather was to be a wonderful 26deg, which was really nice because the Sunday before it and the Tuesday after, were both rain days. I managed to talk Scott and Justin into coming out with me and Erin, my daughter. This was to be the first time at the track for Erin so she could get a feel for what its like to go roadracing.

SEPTEMBER 20th, 2007 - TRACK DAY - SHANNONVILLE LONG

This particular track day with Tom and Paul's group was well anticipated. The weather report said sunny skies and temp around 28deg. And it was. We arrived early and set up our pit in a relaxed fashion. Double checking the fuel levels and donning our leathers, we were ready to go. The TZR250 was jetted right on with 270's and despite the tach still not working, it pulled cleanly through the rev range. Now that everything was working well I could concentrate on my technique and see how the stock gearing worked out. By mid afternoon I was dragging both pipes on almost every corner and I was starting to catch up and pass a number of bikes. Gearing was the problem however. I could have really used 4 to 6 teeth on the back sprocket. Most of the infield corners required either top of first at 10000rpm or bottom of second at 6000, where I was having a bit of a problem pulling. Two scary moments in total. One on a warm up lap where I twisted the throttle a bit too much and the back end stepped out. The second one was when a R1 with a track newbie low sided in front of me just as I was setting up for a pass. I ended up going off the track to avoid the spinning bike but I didn't fall over. Whew! His bike was badly damaged but he was OK. I hope that didn't scare him away.

All in all, a very good day.

SEPTEMBER 8th and 9th, 2007 - VRRA - RUNWAY ROMP

This venue is half of an airport in North Bay, while the other half is still functioning with planes and helicopters taking off and landing. The weather report promised good weather and I must say although chilly at night the days were glorious. Now if you haven't been to North Bay before, I'll tell you that the track surface is a bit rough. So first thing I did was to soften all my suspension settings. A bit mushy, but at least it was tracking straight. For this weekend I added S&B pod air filters and changed to 270 main jets. New exhaust spigots were installed, machined with tapered walls to match the exhaust port to the pipe, which was a huge improvement over the original straight wall ones. The matched ports greatly aided exhaust flow and therefore produced more power, and I could feel the difference.

AUGUST 16th, 2007 - TRACK DAY - SHANNONVILLE LONG

AUGUST 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2007 - VRRA - MOSPORT FESTIVAL

Well, this was a no go. As you can see from the last entry, I was having some problems that couldn't be fixed without a great deal of running around and grief. I decided to sit this one out and just help everyone else. Weather was hot, but not too humid. Rain was forcast for late Saturday, but other than that, the weekend looked good.

AUGUST 2nd, 2007 - TRACK DAY - MOSPORT

JULY 17th, 2007 - TRACK DAY -SHANNONVILLE LONG

JULY 1st, 2007 - UPDATE

As you can see, the website has changed a bit. I've lightened up the graphics a bit and deleted a few links to useless pages such as merchandise and sponsors (seeing as I'm the only sponsor...)
Then I added two more pages which are the new racebikes under construction, the TZR250 and the SRX600 Supermono.

JUNE 15th, 16th and 17th, 2007 - VRRA - QUINTE TT

Wow, what a mess of the weekend.

After arriving on Friday and setting up camp, everything looked good other than missing tech inspection that evening. Saturday morning, I woke up early to get to tech inspection at 7 a.m. which was to be the hardest thing I would have to do all day. Boy, was I wrong.
Just before the first practice session, my bike died on the pre-grid. After pushing it up and down pit row I gave up and started to walk it back to the pits. On the way there I let the clutch out and it fired right back up again. Go figure. So I made a total of four laps that session.
Second practice session I made it out all right but on the third lap the bike died coming out of corner one and I coasted into corner two. At the corner marshall station a quick look showed that the battery connector had fallen off. Corner one was particularly bumpy and it must've fallen off while I was going over the ripples.
Two hours later I had my first heat. This time, two laps into the race my exhaust falls off. Even though I safety wired the bottom of the spring the top hook broke right off. Needless to say I headed into the pits after getting a black flag waved at me.
After finding new springs, I was ready to go for the Vintage Challenge. I got a pretty good start, got my head down and started to peel off some pretty good laps. Then on lap seven, just after moving into sixth place, I went into corner one and the bike died. I coasted into corner two, again, only to find out that I had sheared off all five bolts from the drive sprocket.

Damn.
