I'm not sure when I first saw a picture of the SRX-6, but when I did, I knew I had to have one. In 1990 I sold my GSXR1100 and promptly drove up to Georgetown, and bought the SRX in the ad below. The bike had been down at some point in its life and subsequently painted a boring dark orange, somewhat red colour. It had a mini fairing in the front, which I disliked, and a neat handrail in the back. Other than that, it was stock.

I drove it all over the place. It was a beautiful city bike and an awesome bike for touring. In the fall of 1992 I went on a weekend tour to Pennsilvania where I crashed the bike in a right hand sweeper doing almost 140kph. The tank, handlebars, guages and tail section were nicely mangled but the new Supertrapp pipe I bought for it survived untouched. After the crash I rebuilt the bike as you see below. I changed the front wheel to a 16" from a Radian 600 and repainted the whole bike including the rims in a bright red.

In 1996 I dropped it again. This time it wasn't my fault other than to be driving around a corner with an oil spill in it. Landing on the right side this time, it crushed my Supertrapp pipe and scraped up the pegs and bar ends. I then decided to take it apart and give the full service treatment that it deserved. A call a few months later from my friend Rich telling me that were taking a trip up to northern Quebec changed those plans and I put it back together. Only I had lost the lower triple clamp, so I just installed a spare RZ500 front end that I had, just for this trip.

When I returned the SRX came apart again and there it sits, still to this day. This winter I intend to do a number of 600 single projects, one of them being getting the old SRX back together. I have a box full of new parts and plans for a new colour too.
